I had another interview today. It was in a building right across the street from the one I interviewed with yesterday. I feel the interview went quite well. I didn’t struggle with any of the questions and the interview was enjoyable.
This was a much smaller company. They were in the middle of remodel so the office was torn apart. The secretary had here newborn baby with her (just as our secretary used to do a few months ago). It didn’t feel as big and prestigious as Omniture, but after the interview I had a really good feeling about it. That sort of confused me. I was thinking I would end up at Omniture. Now, what if I have two companies making an offer, would I take the big one with bigger benefits, or the small one with the more personal feel?
Well, I just got an email from Omniture saying they were going to pass on me. They weren’t satisfied with how I did on the programming questions. It’s understandable. I took quite a while to solve some somewhat simple problems. But I don’t think it represented me well. I have taken a few months off programming PHP to learn learn Ruby on Rails, and then changed gears and decided to learn Python & the Django framework.
In any case, I was upset when I first read the email, but then I remembered the feeling I had after today interview and it was comforting. They were aware that I was interviewing with Omniture. One of the last things he said is that they will try to get an offer to me soon in hopes of stealing me away from them.
