We played our second tournament game tonight. We started out great. We made some great plays in the infield to get 3 quick outs. Unfortunately, we also didn’t score any runs in the first inning. In the second inning the other team scored about 4 runs and our team really got down. I had to remind them that baseball was fun. We ended up playing 5 innings. By the 5th inning we were down 9 runs so I put in all the little kids in the infield and sat our two best players on the bench. After the game I had some parents approach me asking why I would do such a thing. I had to explain that we had no chance at winning at that point and I wanted the younger kids to get some experience. It made sense to them. It’s funny how competative the parents get. I think I’m just seeing a glimpse of it and it will only get worse as the boys get older.
We were fortunate though becuase we were picked at random to play another game because of the odd number of teams. So we have another game tomorrow at 7 PM. I hope the kids can have more fun.
