On my way to work this morning I wrote a letter to Dan. I had no intention of giving the letter to Dan, but I wanted to get all my thoughts and feelings out. By the time I got to work I decided to set up a meeting with him. Luckily his afternoon was open and I spent an hour and a half chatting with him.

I’m glad I did. Dan has a way of calling me out and chastising me in a way that motivates and inspires me to do better. Joel has a way of offending and pissing me off in a way that inspires me to send out resumes to look for another job.

I was able to explain directly to Dan why things have taken so long, defend my work, and make a plan to prioritize the most important things. I wish I had talked to him sooner. I was getting the feeling that I was getting dumped on and falling from grace, but Dan emphasized how important stats are to him and that is why he has his #1 guy working on them.

I felt so much better after that meeting.
