Last week I got an email from Travis Knudsen. One of his friends from high school contacted him because he found me on LinkedIn and saw that I was connected to Travis. So he asked Travis how he know me. Travis told him I was one of his favorite mission companions and I was a really bright guy. He arranged for us to meet for lunch today. So I met his friend Cory Carpenter and a guy named Dallin for lunch along with Travis. They were basically trying to recruit me to work for them. They work for a company called EnticeLabs. I actually interviewed with them last year. It was a phone interview as I was travelling in a shuttle from the airport to Disneyland with my family. I didn’t take the job because they were offering lower pay and a portion of the company. In hindsight it was a good call because everyone got let go and EnticeLabs was purchased by Neutron Interactive.

I’m also familiar with Neutron Interactive because I had an interview set up with them while I was job hunting when MSC was struggling. I ultimately cancelled because I didn’t want to commute all the way to downtown Salt Lake. In hindsight, I think I should have at least interviewed there. It turns out it is only about two miles farther than my current job and takes about the same amount of time. They have become a very profitable company and were ranked #12th best place to work in Utah last year.

So I was pretty surprised when we showed up at Neutron’s building and learned that they had purchased EnticeLabs. They told me about the product they are working on and it sounds interested and sounds like it has some potential. I’m going to look into it further and go through their interview process.

What I find most interesting about all this is that I just read a book called The Power of Who. I didn’t know much about it. I read it because it was on Dave Ramsey’s recommended reading list. It turns out it is mostly about finding your dream job and leveraging your closest friends to help you. The premise of the book is that you already know everyone you NEED to know to be successful. After listing to the audiobook it really got me thinking and this situation today has me believing that it just might be true. I wasn’t really looking for a job, but just last week I started to think about it and wonder if it was time to make a change. I have sort of felt stagnant and unappreciated by most people at SendOutCards. I don’t know what will happen or if I will change jobs, but these series of events are interesting to me nonetheless.
